At last week’s meeting on January 21, novice members of Ballynahinch Camera Club went head-to-head with their submissions in mono and colour prints, as well as PDI (digital) entries.
A great diversity of images was on display, all judged by one of our own members, Alan Chowney, who is also the current NIPA President.
Alan commented on the impressive creativity, composition, effort, and technical ability evident in each image, while also sharing helpful tips on how photographers could take their work to the next level. Evenings like this are a great way to encourage novice members to keep getting out there and trying new things.
First place in each category was awarded to Isaac Busby in the mono section, Paul Mullen in the colour round, and Ciara Fullam in the PDI category, with each winner receiving a small prize. Second and third places were also awarded in each section, along with a number of highly commended and commended images, reflecting the strong standard of entries on the night.
Next week’s meeting on January 28 is not to be missed, with judging taking place for the unusual genre of ICM (Intentional Camera Movement) in the fourth round of the inter-club NIPA competition. ICM involves deliberately moving the camera during exposure to create expressive and abstract images, offering photographers a chance to experiment creatively and push boundaries.
Ballynahinch Camera Club welcomes photographers of all abilities, from complete beginners to those with many years of experience. New members are invited to attend for a few weeks with no obligation, to see if the club is right for them. There is also plenty of tea, coffee, biscuits, and good craic to enjoy.
