The guest speaker at last week’s meeting of Ballynahinch Camera Club was Belfast photographer Brian Maguire. Brian’s main photographic interest is landscapes, but he also has an interest in drone photography. “Having a drone is like having an extra lens which can give a different perspective on the view” he said as he explained his use of drones.
Brian started his talk by describing some of the technical details of drones and the pros and cons of the different models. He also outlined the legal aspects of flying a drone and the qualifications which are needed to stay within the law. Most of all, he emphasised the fun which could be had with a drone, so long as it was used in the proper way.
Brian completed his very interesting and entertaining talk by showing some of his vast collection of landscape images which have been captured both in Ireland and farther afield. Some of the photographs had been taken with a conventional camera at ground level and these were used to illustrate the point that often the drone’s eye view was better than ground view, but that this was not always the case.

Members will not be meeting at their normal venue this week but rather, many of then will be attending the judging and results of Round 1 of the NIPA competition which is being held in Belfast.
