At last week’s meeting on 19th February, members from camera clubs across Northern Ireland gathered for the adjudication of Round 4 in the Northern Ireland Photographic Association inter-club competition. This round’s theme was ICM (Intentional Camera Movement), a creative technique where photographers move the camera during exposure to produce abstract or impressionistic images.
The evening began with a special presentation. Current NIPA President Alan Chowney presented Anita Kirkpatrick with an award in recognition of her dedication and commitment, both prior to and during her term as NIPA President. Anita continues to go the extra mile for the photographic community, and it was a fitting and well-deserved acknowledgement of her efforts.
We were also delighted to see our own Alan Chowney, Terry Hanna, and Doug McCourt each awarded stars for their entries, bringing valuable points to Ballynahinch in the inter-club leaderboard. Other members also contributed strongly on the night, with several images scoring valuable points and narrowly missing out on star awards — all of which count towards the club’s overall placing at the end of the season. With only one round remaining, it’s still all to play for.
A big thank you goes to the judging panel, who did an excellent job critiquing and scoring what was undoubtedly one of the more challenging themes of the season. Thanks also to Christian Brothers Camera Club for hosting the evening, for their warm welcome, and for providing refreshments during the interval.
At next week’s meeting, we will be internally judging our Round 5 entries, which has an Open theme, allowing members complete freedom in their choice of subject — always a great opportunity to see some of the club’s most varied and creative work on display.
