Deliberately moving the camera while taking a photograph sounds counter-intuitive to most people but the action has given rise to a genre of photography called ICM – Intentional Camera Movement. ICM will be addressed in Round 4 of the NIPA competitions in the 2025/26 season which starts in September.

At last week’s meeting of Ballynahinch Camera Club, the guest speaker was local photographer Simon McIlwaine who shared his passion for ICM with an audience made up of members of Ballynahinch, CPA and RAW camera clubs. Simon showed a large number of his images, many of them taken in his beloved Mournes and along the County Down coast. Simon invited debate as to exactly what constituted ICM and what did not. He shared the techniques which he used to obtain his images and certainly inspired many of his audience to go out and ‘give it a go’!

The speakers at this week’s meeting will be club members Frances Price and John Knipe who will give an illustrated talk on their recent visit to Mongolia. New members are always welcome and if anyone with an interest in photography would like more details of joining the club they should visit the club website – – www.ballynahinchcameraclub.co.uk.
