Last Thursday evening club chairman Keith Wilson introduced Belfast-based photographer Donal McCann as the guest speaker. Donal is best known for his architectural photographs, although he is also an accomplished portrait photographer.
The main part of Donal’s talk centred on his architectural work, and he was very generous in sharing many of his trade secrets which will be very useful to club members when they are preparing their entries for Round 2 of the NIPA competition which is on the genre of architecture. Donal was involved in recording the building of the Titanic Centre and The Grand Central Station. His images can be viewed on his website – www.donalmccann.com.
As well as showing many of his award-winning images, Donal also explained how he optimises his business profits by licensing his work. This was an aspect of photography which was new to many of the large audience who attended his talk. Judging by the volume of applause at the end of the evening, Donal’s presentation was very well received and appreciated by all who were there.
This week’s meeting will take the form of a studio session with a difference. Members will get the opportunity to ‘shoot’ a variety of animals in controlled, studio conditions.
New members are always welcome and if anyone with an interest in photography would like more details of joining the club they should visit the club website – – www.ballynahinchcameraclub.co.uk.
