Ballynahinch Camera Club have had a busy and successful week. Last Wednesday evening amateur photographers from all over Northern Ireland were welcomed to Edengrove Presbyterian Church Hall as the club hosted the adjudication of Round Two of the Northern Ireland Photographic Association’s annual competition. The judges commented on the extremely high quality of images which had been submitted for this round which was on the genre of architecture. Eight of the images which had been submitted by four Ballynahinch members were awarded stars. Stars are only awarded to images which, in the judges’ opinions, are of the highest standard so this was quite an achievement. Ballynahinch Camera Club is now lying second in the NIPA league of affiliated clubs.
On Thursday evening the guest speaker was the well-known natural history photographer, author and conservationist Robert Thompson. Robert gave a fascinating talk, illustrated by many of his stunning images, to a packed room of club members and their guests. During his talk he explained how he achieved very high-quality photographs of animals and fungi, many of which are only millimetres in size. He also showed several audio-visual presentations which showcased different aspects of his work, both here in Northern Ireland and further afield.
The speaker at this week’s meeting is club member, Alan Chowney, who will be giving an illustrated talk on his recent trip to Japan.
New members are always welcome and if anyone with an interest in photography would like more details of joining the club they should visit the club website – – www.ballynahinchcameraclub.co.uk.
