Ballynahinch Camera Club held its first meeting of the 2025/26 season in Edengrove Presbyterian Church Hall last Thursday evening. Club Vice Chairman, Jim Hunter, welcomed many existing members and a couple of potential new members. With the help of various committee members Jim described the activities and successes of the club during the past year and outlined the programme which had been planned for the incoming year.
Club President, Terry Hanna, mentioned that Ballynahinch Camera Club had been placed second in the Northern Ireland Photographic Association (NIPA) league at the end of the 2024/25 season. Whilst members are encouraged to take part in the various competitions throughout the year, Terry stressed that the enjoyment of photography is the top priority of the club but that this can be done at the same time as improving one’s photographic skills.
Club member Alan Chowney is beginning the first of his two-year tenure as president of NIPA. This is a great honour for Alan and also for Ballynahinch Camera Club. Alan spoke briefly to outline the role that NIPA plays in the support of camera clubs right across Northern Ireland.
Programme secretary, Ciara Fullam, gave a brief outline of the programme which has been planned for the new season. This was followed by a short talk by Frances Price and John Knipe about the general running of the club and the mechanics of entering images for competitions.
This week’s meeting takes the form of a studio night when members will get the opportunity to photograph each other using the club’s studio lights and backdrops. New members are always welcome and if anyone with an interest in photography would like more details of joining the club they should visit the club website – www.ballynahinchcameraclub.co.uk.
